Membership
Membership Eligibility/Classifications
Agency membership shall be available to an insurance agency engaged in the business commonly referred to as the American Agency System and who:
- Represents at least one property and casualty insurance company on a commission basis for their own account and is legally authorized to represent more than one independent insurance company and has legal ownership of expirations; and
- Has a current resident agent license to sell property and casualty insurance with the Louisiana Department of Insurance; and
- A minimum of 51% of the book of business is P&C and derived from insurance placed directly for the general public.
Agency Membership includes membership at the National and State levels, as well as the local chapter level (where applicable).
Agency Membership at the state level has 3 Tiers based on the number of licensed employees of the agency.
Tier 1: 5 or fewer property/casualty licensed employees
Tier 2: more than 5, but fewer than 16 property/casualty licensed employees
Tier 3: 16 or more property/casualty licensed employees
Local Chapter Membership is required if the business address is located in a parish outlined as part of a local chapter. Membership in any additional/all chapters is available to PIA Members. See map below for specific parishes served by a local chapter.

Associate membership in PIA shall be available to a company, brokerage or other vendor that is directly or indirectly associated with the insurance industry.
This membership shall not be available to those who qualify for full voting agency membership. Additionally, this membership does not include membership in PIA National. Local Chapter Membership is required if the main business address is located in a parish outlined as part of a local chapter. Membership in any additional/all chapters is available to PIA Members. See map below for specific parishes served by a local chapter.

Life & Health Agency membership shall be available to an insurance agency who is interested in receiving limited benefits of membership in PIA of Louisiana. Membership is limited to state level (and local chapter level, where applicable), you will not obtain voting rights in the association, and must meet the following criteria:
- Represents at least one life and health insurance company on a commission basis for their own account and is legally authorized to represent more than one independent insurance company;
- Has a current resident agent license to sell life and health insurance with the Louisiana Department of Insurance;
- Life & Health Agency membership shall also be to firms engaged in the insurance brokerage business who sell insurance, have legal ownership of expirations, but do not represent any insurance companies. A minimum of 51% of revenue is derived through life and health insurance placed directly to the general public.
- No more than 25% of revenue should be derived through the sale of property and casualty insurance.
