Follow-up to Zoom Call to Have Your Voice
Heard About Risk Rating 2.0 — Action Requested

This week PIA members joined representatives from the Coalition for Sustained Flood Insurance to discuss what agents are seeing in the way of rates from the new Risk Rating 2.0 system. More than 30 agents and other insurance professionals joined this call. As a follow-up, we are collecting data to get a clearer picture of what this change will mean for consumers as well as to share with Congress, so we ask that you help us by completing this template where you can provide examples of premium changes under Risk Rating 2.0. Click here to access the excel template. It is not necessary to fill out each box, but just provide as much information as you are comfortable providing. If this information is shared widely, your name and contact information will NOT be included — that is only on the chart in case CSFI needs to follow-up with you to get more information. Please submit information and questions to Ileana Ledet at iledet@gnoinc.org and copy Jody Boudreaux as well at jody@piaoflouisiana.com.

Hurricane Ida Relief Efforts

Because so many of our members who normally have participated in our relief efforts have now been affected by Hurricane Ida, we have not been able to coordinate onsite efforts. However, we still plan on doing so, and we encourage anyone who might want to take the lead in helping coordinate these efforts by cooking, to please reach out. Once a date is determined, we will get that out to you and reach out to those who have volunteered to serve onsite. Again, we list a few ways below that you can help support these efforts:

  1. Donate supplies. We ask that you bring these to one of the following drop-off locations, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.:

    PIA of Louisiana Office
    4021 W E Heck Ct., Building K
    Baton Rouge, LA
    Jody Boudreaux — 225-766-7770

    Other Locations —

If you would like to be added as a drop-off location in a different area than listed above and/or for future efforts, please email jody@piaoflouisiana.com.

  2. Donate money. We have set up a GoFundMe account for the sole purpose of purchasing supplies to provide these relief efforts. You can make your donation by clicking here.

  3. Volunteer your time. We ask that you join us in our onsite relief efforts by letting us know when you would be available, which would include handing out supplies and/or cooking as needed. Please email jody@piaoflouisiana.com with your availability. Based on responses, we will put together a schedule for those that have volunteered.

  4. Other Assistance. While our efforts onsite are our initial efforts, we know that there are other more long-term needs following a disaster, so we will be coordinating those as well. If you can assist in another way, please email jody@piaoflouisiana.com.
As always, we appreciate our members that come together to help other members. It has always been what makes PIA a family. Continue to keep our brothers and sisters in the affected areas in your prayers.

PIA Begins Series of Risk Rating 2.0 FAQs

As agents, carriers, and policyholders around the country enter the new world of the National Flood Insurance Program's (NFIP) Risk Rating 2.0 (RR 2.0), PIA is introducing an ongoing series of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and answers that we hope will help to inform and guide your decision making as you familiarize yourself with RR 2.0.

These FAQs will appear on the PIA Advocacy Blog and will be updated periodically. Please note:

The information contained therein is current as of the date posted. FEMA is continuing to release additional guidance documents, and the information contained may change. As always, we will provide PIA members with new information as it becomes available. Read the first installment here.

If you have immediate questions, please contact your Write-Your-Own (WYO) carrier for the most relevant, up-to-date information.

NFIP Extended to December 3

An agreement by Congress to extend funding for the federal government includes an extension of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) until December 3, as well. Without the congressional action, the NFIP would have lapsed.

On the afternoon of Sept. 30, the House passed an amended version of H.R. 5305, the continuing resolution (CR) that will fund the federal government until December 3, 2021, by a vote of 254 to 175. Hours earlier, the Senate passed the bill 65-35 after amending it to strip out a provision to raise the debt ceiling. The measure included the NFIP extension. It was quickly signed by President Biden.
